Electric - Yes, after it completely dries.
Gas - Yes, but change the oil(if used) and fuel.

It should be fine if dried out. If it's 4 cycle make sure you change the oil and gas. 2 cycle then it's just the gas. Worse care it needs new points which and lawm mower shop can do. The phone, toss it in some rice for a few days and hope for the best

It can be repaired, but you are not financially responsible for anything concerning the irresponsible buffoon. He can make arrangements to pay it off in installments and accept responsibility.

Yes the leaf blower will be fine. Change the fuel and oil if it is 4 cycle. I would also change the air filter. The oxygen bandit can deal with his own phone he has to learn to take care of his own at some point. If it makes you feel any better my daughters BF was driving my old beater Jeep W/O a license or insurance. Totaled it with a DWI and possession. Then they wondered why I took the car to the scrapyard

Well intentioned comments made by others that don’t fully understand has things work don’t cover the possibilities. As an experienced engine builder I will say that if the leaf blower engine was running when he fell in it would have “inhaled” water into the engine cylinder and blower unit instead of air, and water being non compressible it would have stopped right then and quite possibly it’s got engine damage (air filter, crank, rod, piston, head gasket) and the blower unit might be damaged as well since it’s not meant to pump water. Water in the wrong places will inevitably cause rust and future problems.

At the very least remove the spark plug and crank it a few times to get the water out of the cylinder, spray WD-40 (WD stands for water dispersant) into the cylinder hole and position the engine so it all runs out the hole, then let it dry. Of course change the oil and gas before you try to start it.

If it was not running it just needs to dry out the electrical and have the oil and fuel changed out. Unless you know someone mechanically inclined to check the basics, it is best to have it inspected by a small engine/lawnmower repair shop, there are many places (cable controls, switches, linkages) that will likely suffer future rust related damage if not taken apart, dried and lubricated.

And just maybe if it was purchased on a credit card, the card issuer might have some sort of loss coverage for new purchases.

If it was mains powered, you could have been attending a funeral - helps to have a sense of proportion about these things!

Despite what some "experienced engine builders" might say, it would to have had to continuously run to damage the rod by hydrolock, and that's a slim maybe, more than likely it would have choked out and stalled when the water covered the intake. As a 30 yr motorcycle mechanic I've got bikes running that were submerged in flood waters from hurricanes. They might have problem on down the line because they sat for so long, but this hasn't sat, he just fell in the water and got it out. New air filter, fresh gas and run it. The heat of the motor will evaporate any moisture left. I love doomsday mechanics that think it's best to rebuild a questionable motor rather than just try, at a large financial cost to YOU, you can always rebuild after. Take it to a local shop, I doubt it will be the 1st one they've seen. Fuck the phone, you don't wanna hear from that twerp, anyway.
