More Deception – And The Implications, To Me – are Large

I had noticed something recently while viewing member profiles. Maybe it’s just another website glitch? But I have my doubts about now. In viewing member profiles, I noticed I stopped seeing any, and all references to the last date the member had logged into their account.

A correction here - I know the display of a members join date on the members profile can be turned off by the member, in their account settings. And I know some members do turn off the display of the join date on their profile. But I thought it strange that I was no longer seeing the date of last visit on any profile…

I had also noticed that if someone peaked my interest , I could sent them a flirt, or hotlist them, and their last log-in date would be displayed in the list of profiles in my hotlist, or my flirts sent page.

Today - I notice all references to a members last log-in date – no longer display in either my hotlist, and my flirts sent page…

If this is not just another website glitch - to me, the implications of this are a bit large.

This means to me I will have no idea if a profile is abandoned, or not. if I were to write to a person, to try to contact them – I might well completely wasting all of my time and effort in trying to write them a creative and inviting message…

Not knowing if a profile had basically been abandoned by it’s owner would also help make it look like there are more people on the website – than their really are. But something like this is only more deception, by the parent company of all of the websites they run.

And at my expense, writing to profiles that may be abandoned. This gets more and more worthless, as a possible social website, as time goes on. Excepting the blogs here, of course. About the only place you may have any idea now – if the member is still active on one of the websites...

it is called marketing manipulation , make you keep trying and keep you active when no real profile person exists . bait and switch simple as that . only the chat rooms give any real interaction with some real people, but many are bots too .

the last date the member had logged into their account disappeared over a month ago.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Hello young lady, as other have reported this feature did disappear some time back. it still shows on view all top fans I think. Not sure why this was removed as it was a nice tool to be able to tell if some one was active...

It was a month or 2 ago that this disappeared. So did the numer of friends in your list. I sent 2 complaints to Passion.com (dmec.com). I want to know when people were last online. Why bother sending a friend request or message to someone who may not have been on the site for months. I suggest everyone send complaints to Passion/dmec.com.

and in the last few days the "last date for people that flirted and view" one is now gone. So they have made all look the same, cant tell if some on is here or not. Like some of the other antics to create artificial "looking" activity....

Well, I had noticed that. But as late as last night, I was still able to see the date of last log-in by a member - in my hotlist, and on my flirts sent page. Today the members last log-in date is gone from my hotlist, and my flirts sent page.

After the date of last log-in by a member disappeared from the profiles, I had been purposely either sending flirts, or hotlisting the member - just so I could see the date of their last log-in.

Now, today - that no longer works for me...

Marketing? I agree.. But to me, more than just marketing. Absolutely deception. Lots of people that have been on here abandon their profile. You used to be able to see that when you viewed profiles. And I mean a very high percentage of profiles on the website showed the person had not logged-in months, and some not for years..

This means viewing profile looking for someone of interest - will be pretty much useless now. Because there will be a very high percentage chance you would be trying to contact someone that has abandoned their profile here. And this is on top of the percentage of people that just won't bother to answer anyway.

On Friend Finder Networks, because they will keep abandoned profiles for years, to keep the member numbers high - it wasn't just a nice tool, it was a necessary tool!

To help keep you from completely wasting your time and effort - writing to abandoned profiles.. If you were ever going to try to contact anyone of interest to you.. As you might, on any kind of social website..

A thought I've had for a while, about that artificial "looking" activity. You all, the men on the companies websites - you all have been targeted. Especially those gullible enough to believe all the artificial "looking" activity they receive on this companies websites.

So many accusations have flown about scammers on this website, and I know there are a lot of them. Some of the scammers never seemed to get the recognition they deserved though - anyone using lies and deception for their personal gain. And on this companies websites, more often than not - it's about something other than money.

The artificial "looking" activity? That is about money though.. But guess whom the scammer is this time though...

And not knowing if a member is actually active, or not - it's in the same vain..

Good Morning, I wrote a Post about this back in February.
"WTF is this Site doing? This morning I searched members near me, suffice to say I was extremely surprised to see nearly 60 members in my local area!!

However on further investigation, there were some in there that I knew from previous searches hadn't been online for more than 3 months! On checking the profiles, they only had Joined Dates, the Last Visit Dates were all missing!
I cannot search by Last visit within 3 days etc. that has also disappeared! The only way to see current local members, is to search members online.

Yet another cynical attempt by dmec.com, to try to Con Members into thinking there are more local members, than are actually there"

I feel your Frustration

I would rather chose someone of interest to me - rather than wait to be chosen by someone that is not really of interest to me.

If I knew that a member had not logged-in in nearly 3-monthes or so, I have sent a one-liner before, asking if they were still watching their mailbox here. There will be no way to tell now though, how long it's been, since someone logged-in to their profile.

I have a hard time sending one-liners though. I know one-liners are less likely to be responded to. I know I don't view one-liners all that favorably, when I receive them.

If you never send a man a message first, then this change in the website may never effect you. I would rather have a choice in a man that I think could be of deeper interest to me though. Honestly, there are a lot of men on here that I'm not really interested in.

I have a feeling the last log-in date will never return to the profiles though. When someone views profiles, actually seeing that so many members haven';t logged into the website - in months, or years... That would ruin the illusion, and the promise of the illusion - the parent company wishes to create on all of their websites. That all of the profiles on the website are real and active members.

It doesn't have to be real - it only needs to look like it could be real.....

Msmealsonheels 30F

After writing about this a bit now, I think I understand.. The rationale for making this change in the member profiles, removing the last log-in date - is to help create an illusion. Especially for new and non-paid standard members.

To help create the illusion that there are many more active members on the website - than there actually are. The member profiles don't need to actually be real and active members - they only need to look like they could be...

Maybe it's a bit like men's profiles that have the marital status omitted... Unless you know up front to look for something - seeing something that isn't there can be a little more difficult to do....

My first thought was deception. I still see that, but now the word illusion is included in my feelings of the changes made to the website. And I feel this deception, and the illusion it helps create - is focused at new members, and especially potential new members.

The member profiles on their websites don't have to actually be real, and active members on the websites - they really only need to look like they could be....

And seeing that a member hasn't been active for months, or even years... Well, that would ruin the illusion...

Let's see.. Make such promises for the website members right on the landing page of the website - essentially promising the viewer that the members of the website are going to want to have sex with them...

Bombarding new members with fake generated website email messages, and paid for ambassador contact messages...

Fake profile view messages..

Flirts, and what all else???

And now going out of their way to hide the fact a profile may be inactive, or even abandoned for more than a year...

I admit I was a bit upset at first. Because the most recent changes will effect the way I had been using the website. Looking at things now though, there could be more to what's going on.. There just might be a part-two to this blog post..

Women say its because we arent using our brains, but our dicks.
Some times.. yeah. that is true. But most of us men here would send 1-2 paragraph messages being COURTEOUS, RESPECTFUL, and even using spell check... all to never get a response. Or have the next blog response be
"Where are the COURTEOUS, RESPECTFUL men that can spell..?"

The websites Friend Finder Networks operates becomes more useless for what they portray the websites to be. It's like the direction is to be more like just a visual website. Sort of like some kind of porn website, where people may come to look around to see what appears to be what might be.

I suppose to each, their own. About the only time I ever sent a short introductory message to anyone - was when I could see that they had not been active on the website for quite some time. And then it was usually to just ask them if they were still watching this mailbox of theirs.

That information - the date they were last active on the website - will be hidden now. Likely, how this change will impact me, is it will be much less frequently that I take a chance, and attempt to contact someone that seems they might be someone who could be of deeper interest to me.

Generally, at least on here - an introductory message to someone is met with silence. And it doesn't seem to matter how much content you write in that introductory message. That's just the way it is, and for many or most people - I expect that to only get worst... Now that people will have no idea if a profile is actually inactive, or was abandoned years ago...

My biggest problem with the site at the moment is when using IM, you tap the button to bring up the message and instead of getting the message you get a screen that asks if you want to be a paying member, then when you try to get back to the message it gets deleted before you can read it.

Well, at first I wasn't sure if it was a glitch or not. I understand glitches will happen.

But no, what I spoke of is -NOT- a glitch. It appears to me - to be a deliberate change to Friend Finder Networks websites to deceive and hide the fact that a members profile you may be looking at - is actually an inactive and/or abandoned profile.

Or in other words - it doesn't have to be real - it only needs to look like it could be..

Well, that's information that will be hidden from you from now on.. So you take a chance.. So if you write a good and personal introduction message, and if the profile happened to be abandoned, you will just be wasting your time..

From viewing profiles in the past, and seeing the member join date, and the last visit date - I can tell you that some people will make a profile, use it the one time - and then never come back..

Dear Member,

Thank you for contacting us.

Thank you for your email. The "Last Visit" date will no longer be displayed on member profiles which is by design. The ability to arrange search results by Distance/Last Visit/Newest Members at the top of the search area is still available, but the date itself will no longer be displayed.

Well, The parent company of Passion - Friend Finder Networks - I feel they DO care, and they DO realize just exactly what they are doing. This change to their websites, that will help them deceive (Especially new members) - they admit it is by design.

In the end though, some will come to a Friend Finder Networks website with some screwing in mind... And now they may be more likely to get that screwing - just not quite exactly in the way that they had been thinking of though....

Don't worry, the Social Sex Network has screwed other communication options up in other ways, too. At least for non-paying members.

I hadn't been on for a couple of months (just kinda frustrated), and when I came back a month ago, I noticed the last-logged-in was gone. However, even before my "hiatus", they had changed (improved? messed-up?) Messages. Before the "improvement", I could talk to at least some of the people who had sent me messages, which I think might have been related to paying members who allowed standard members to see their profiles. But, now -- no-dice, on any type of account. Period. And that's a shame, because there are a couple of conversations that I'd like to re-engage.

As for one-liners (or simple messages) it doesn't seem like that will necessarily encourage someone to respond, even if they are active. Rather than going with something brutally repetative and unoriginal like "hey, you're hot", I try to pick up on something in their profile, or a not-so-glaringly-obvious aspect of their profile pic in a 2- or 3-sentence IM, and that only engenders a response maybe 15% of the time. Maybe. Of course, being a guy on here, it is a bit of an uphill battle get the attention of a woman sometimes. Or, it's just me. ...

If you have a private-mail blog post, people can still get in touch with you, however, I suspect a lot of members, especially newer members, don't know that's even a thing to look for. I mention mine right at the beginning of my profile, but the mailbox doesn't see too many comments, though a reasonable number of views. If somebody goes to your blog, they can determine, at least to some degree, by date of last post or activity, whether you're still active. That might not work for some, like me, since I don't have too many posts. The other challenging aspect is that it's just more work on the part of someone who might want to get in touch with you.

Hmm. An idea just occurred -- though it may face the same handicaps as somebody using your blog to determine if you're still active. Would a short blog post, up near the top, just saying you were last on the site on such-and-such be a work-around? You wouldn't necessarily have to keep it up-to-date every single time you logged in, but maybe every 2 weeks or so. It would be manually recreating the lost functionality somewhere else in your overall presence on the site. Just in a much-less-obvious place.

I've gone back-and-forth about trying a premium membership here again. It seems like the latest improvements to the site are causing me to lean in the direction of "no".
